Management of Diabetes Mellitus

Why does Type-2 diabetes occur ?

Type 2 diabetes (adult-onset diabetes) is a chronic disease in which “our body either doesn’t produce enough insulin or the cells in our body do not respond to insulin correctly.”

Type 2 diabetes is always preceded by a phase called ‘insulin resistance’.

This is what happens in this phase.

  • The cells require more and more insulin to elicit a response.

  • As a result, the body produces more insulin to push glucose from the blood into the cells and keep the blood sugar level stable.

  • Gradually the cells become so insulin-insensitive that the insulin produced by the body is insufficient.

  • Because of this, glucose accumulates in the blood and raises the blood sugar level.

Diabetes reversal is not a scientific term and therefore, it has no universally accepted definition.

What most companies define as ‘diabetes reversal’ is actually remission.

If you have reduced your HbA1c to a number below 6.4% and are no longer dependent on medication to manage your diabetes, you have successfully ‘reversed diabetes.’

This is usually done through a complete lifestyle change and losing a significant amount of weight.

However, ‘reversing diabetes’ or remission is not permanent. The underlying factors contributing to your chances of getting diabetes remain intact.

If you fail to maintain the lifestyle change, your diabetes will come back.

Long story short, ‘diabetes reversal’ is actually a state of remission.

Is Diabetes Reversal possible ?

Why do we refuse to call our program ‘diabetes reversal’?

Simply because it's misleading. The term ‘diabetes reversal’ makes it sound like it’s permanent. There is no cure for Diabetes.

Only partial remission (bringing HbA1c to pre-diabetic level) or complete remission (also known as diabetes reversal) are possible.

There's absolutely no guarantee that you will never be diabetic again.

This is why calling any program ‘diabetes reversal’ is at best deceptive and wrong.

Dietary Management of Diabetes

Around 77 million people in India live with Diabetes. This means they live with the fear of terrifying complications like stroke, heart attack EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

A life without restrictions (don’t do this, you can’t do that) and stress might seem like a far-fetched dream. But it’s not. People can (and our users have) live normal, stress-free, fulfilling lives despite their diabetes.

By keeping your HbA1c below 7%, you CAN live like a non-diabetic person- with the same life expectancy and risk of health complications.

Nutrition is the single most effective way of treating Diabetes (be it Type 1 or Type 2).

Combine it with exercise, stress management and lifestyle change, and you’ve got a program that will make sure that you beat diabetes for good

“No one in my family has Diabetes, so I can’t get It ”

It is necessarily not true. The risk of diabetes goes up with age and is higher in people with heart disease, high blood pressure, and those who are obese or overweight, regardless of family history.

“Eating too much sugar causes Diabetes”

You can’t blame it all on your sugar intake. The real risks are weight gain and inactivity.  In order to reduce your risk, it’s important to match your calorie intake to your body's needs, rather than cutting sugar all together

“People with Diabetes shouldn’t eat carbohydrates or sugary foods”

The truth is, that carbs are equally important in building up your body’s nutrition as other nutrients. However, it is important to plan ahead to avoid sudden changes in your blood sugars.
